Chapter 25-26 Reflection

In Chapters 25-26, Cole suggests that Peter comes to the island and soak in the pool and carry the ancestor stone. Edwin says that fishing season was starting up again and that he wouldn't be able to stay with them. Garvey would have other things to do. A few days later, Garvey, Edwin, Mr. Driscal, Mrs. Driscal, and Peter come to the island. Cole shows them where he was mauled and where the old cabin was. He explains to them how he has changed and his dances. Cole also shows them his totem pole. Peter screams at Cole about how he doesn't want anything to do with Cole. At night, the Driscals go sleep in the boat while Cole sleeps in the cabin. The next day Mr. Driscal, Mrs. Driscal, and Edwin leave. Garvey, Cole and Peter stay. Cole goes to the pool to soak and carry the ancestor stone. Garvey and Peter come with but don't soak themselves.The next day, Peter pushes Cole into the pool and throws a rock at him. After a few days of sleeping in a leaky tent, Cole is tired of it. Peter then invites Cole into the cabin.

It seems like Cole and Peter have switched places. Peter is being a bully and Cole is the victim. I think that Peter has every right to be mad at Cole for smashing his head into the cement. I am also glad that he finally is forgiving Cole.

Reflection on Chapter 23-24

In Chapter 23, Cole wake up and find that he ha found out how to be inviible. Intead of trying to blend in, he need to empty hi head of all thought. People go through life to fat and need to jut calm down and enjoy life. When Cole it and emptie hi head, he ee the pirit Bear. When he tart thinking again, the bear goe away. That night he dance the anger dance. He pretend to beat up a tree and curee the un and water. Cole kick the fire. Then he actually punche the tree until he bleed. He finally yell that he i orry.

In Chapter 24, Cole chop down a little tree that i already almot dead for Chritma. He top going to the pool and carrying the ancetor tone. Hi anger come back to haunt him. Edwin come one day in march and tell Cole that Peter tried to kill himelf. When Edwin leave Cole yell at him that he (Edwin) doen't car what happen to Peter. Edwin come back the iland the next day and ay that he wa ready to liten

I can feel what Cole i going through kind of becaue my Uncle DID commit uicide. It mut be even wore knowing that you were the one who almot had the peron kill themelf.

Summary of Chapters 17-18

In Chapter 17, Cole and Garvey go on a hike. Cole had been Thinking and thinking about his anger. Cole and Edwin come to a pool. They go swimming. Cole's anger suddenly decreases. In chapter 18, Cole begins to build his cabin. After he makes the frames for the walls, he does the whale dance. Cole sleeps fitfully. iN the morning Edwin wakes him for the swimming again. Cole doesn't want to go. He carries the Ancestor Stone.

Reflection on Chapters 15-16

In Chapter 15, Cole is told that he is going back to the island. Edwin does a demonstration with Cole to the Circle. They stand on either side of a line that represents life. Cole is on the bad side. Edwin leans against him to make Cole move. Cole pushes against Edwin. Cole moves a few feet away. Then they start at the line again. This time Edwin shoves Cole. This shows that change can happen gradually, or all at the same time. Being mauled by the bear made Cole change both ways.

In Chapter 16, Cole, Edwin, and Garvey are at the island. Cole has to buy his supplies and build the shelter. He roasts a hot dog. Garvey says that the hot dog is the world. Then he roasts a hot dog. Garvey does it slowly and shares it. When Cole tastes it he says its just a regular hotdog.

In chapter 13, Cole finds himself in the home of Rosey, a nurse. They were going to fly Cole out to a hospital, but the weather was too bad. When Cole sleeps soundly, he dreams that all the people he knows are giving him gifts. Then they turn into monsters. Garvey asks him what mauled Cole. He says its a spirit bear. Garvey said it was impossible. Cole wants to show him the fur, but he says that now people will take his word for it.

In chapter 14, it is 6 months later. Cole will never use his right arm, and he will always walk with a limp. His dad is arrested for child abuse. His mom stops drinking. Cole goes back to the detention center. He meets with Circle Justice again. THey will send him back to the island if he explains why he broke the obligations.

In chapter 11, Cole eats a mouse alive(blchh). Seagulls start eating his throw-up. When Cole sees this, he fights them off, and then eats his OWN barf! He sees the spirit bear again. In chapter 12, Cole touches the bear. Then he falls asleep. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a boat! Garvey and Edwin take him to shore and heal him.

Once my sister got mad at me for some reason, so she soaked a towel in the sink and put it on my bed. I got really mad at her and wouldn't talk to her for a day. When I was mad, I couldn't think. Everything anyone did felt like they just wanted to anger me.

If its for something you're doing, as long as its not bad, no. If you're doing something wrong or immoral, then it is important. If you are just being weird, or brave for something, who cares? Thats what my karate teacher says anyway. Sometimes I am random, and people think I'm just weird, but it doesn't matter!

People who mistreat their kids will, in turn, make their children mistreat their own kids

Conflict Analysis on Chapters 9-10

Character V.S. Themselves

Cole is battling himself. When he sees the sparrows, he just wants to knock them out of the tree. But after the storm, he wants to make sure that they are all right. When he finds the four baby sparrows knocked out of the tree, Cole wonders if their death was quick and painless, or slow and excruciating. He then realizes that life is sweet and short. After all... "We are not here for a long time, but we are here for a GOOD time."

Character V.S. Nature

Cole is battling the bugs. He can't move, so the bugs have an all you can eat feast on him. Cole is also battling the storm.

Chapter 1-2 Reflection (continued)

In Chapter 2, Cole is interviewed by the members of Circle Justice. After his application is accepted, he meets with the Circle Justice members. As part of his banishment, Cole has to wear his clothes inside out. He is isolated on an island, with all the necessary supplies, including schoolwork he should do. At the end of the chapter, Cole lights a match and burns his shelter AND supplies!

In the first two chapters, Cole breaks a few of the native American Ten Commandments. When Cole beats up Peter, he is not following the third, which says "Show great respect for your fellow beings." He also breaks the ninth commandment, "Be truthful and honest at all times." He is not being honest when he tells the Circle Justice that he feels remorse for his sins. Cole is also breaking Commandment Six. He is not doing what he knows to be right when he does criminal deeds. Cole DOES follow Commandment Ten, "Take full responsibility for your actions". He brags about vandalizing the store at school.

Reflection on Chapters 1-2, Touching Spirit Bear

In Chapter One of Touching Spirit Bear, we learn that the main character is Cole Matthews. Cole is a

juvenile delinquent. After robbing and vandalizing a hardware store, he brags about it at school. A freshman

at Cole's high school, Peter Driscal rats on him. Cole gets really mad and beats his head into the sidewalk.

As punishment for beating Peter, as well as robbing and vandalizing the hardware store, Cole is sent to a

junior jail center. Since his parents are divorced, they only see him one at a time. Since Cole just ignores

them, they just stop visiting. The only people who ever visit are Nathaniel Blackwood, his dad's lawyer,and

Gravey, the youth probation officer. On one of his visits, Gravey offers a second option to jail; Circle

Justice. Circle Justice is a healing version of jail, practiced by Native Americans. It is designed to heal, not

punish. Cole, with help from Gravey, sends in his application.

Hi Mr. Wise/ Mrs. Steward! Welcome to my blog. I didn't know if this was just for Touching Spirit Bear, or for other novels, so I just called it "Annie's 7th Grade Language Arts Blog".

I'm really excited to read Touching Spirit Bear! I read some summaries online and it sounds really good! See ya in class!
